Handle

This mysterious object was found beneath the hedge in the far corner to the North of the site, in a pile of rubble including bricks and other detritus.  It is hard to guess for what purpose it would have been used and remains unidentified, albeit in remarkably good order.  Could it have been a handle for a tool?  Or a winder of some kind? But it is strange that it does not have a hole that would have fitted onto a winding spindle and normally this kind of item would be made in metal, rarely in stone.  Not knowing its provenance one might guess it to be something left over from airfield days perhaps?
